Updated January 2024* Please read the entire F.A.Q. before emailing me with any questions, thank you!

General Information

  • I tattoo out of Yarrow Studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, N.Y.

  • I started collecting my own tattoos as soon as I was legally able. Years later, after an abandoned photography degree, I began teaching myself to tattoo when I was working as a tattoo studio manager in Brooklyn. Since 2019, through a whole pandemic, lots of patience, and without a formal apprenticeship, I taught myself to tattoo and am now grateful to share this with you!

  • Excellent question! Please do the following: Drink plenty of water, moisturize the area in which you will be tattooed, sleep well, and eat something within three hours before our appointment. In addition, it is not recommended to have taken blood thinners (such as Tylenol) on the day of as it may cause excessive bleeding. Try to wear dark colors or something you don’t care to risk getting ink or stencil on. They will not come out of clothing! Last but not least, I’d also suggest bringing a fully charged phone and water bottle and some snacks to our appointment.

  • You must legally be 18+ to get a tattoo, no exceptions!

  • Typically I use a combination of Dynamic Ink, Solid Ink and Eternal Ink. Both Solid and Eternal are made with vegan products. Please email me before our appointment if you need more information about the ink I use.

  • If you need to cancel, please let me know at least 48 hours before your appointment so I can try and fill the slot. Your deposit is non-refundable, even if you decide to cancel.

If you need to reschedule, please email me ASAP. I understand that things happen, and certainly don’t want you coming in if you feel ill or just not in the headspace for a tattoo.

If rescheduled 48 hours before our appointment, there is no fee to reschedule and the original deposit will apply to the new session. If done after this time, you’ll need to pay another deposit to book a new session and the original deposit will not be applied to the session. This is to cover my time as it’s very difficult to fill a slot in under 48 hours. With all reschedules, I will try my best to reschedule your appointment to the near future, but it may be another fey months before I can get you back on my calendar.

If you are running late, please email me ASAP to let me know your status. After 30 minutes, I may need to ask us to reschedule our appointment and a new deposit will be required to book.

  • Yes! Please subscribe to my newsletter and select the cities you’d like to be notified for if I can visit.

  • We kindly ask that you please come ALONE to our appointment to minimize foot traffic in the studio.

Our waiting room is reserved for clients only. Greenpoint is a beautiful area with plenty of parks, shopping and food for your friends to enjoy during our session.

I promise you are in good hands with just myself :)

  • Please email me directly lilpeggyhill@gmail.com at anytime. You do not need to wait until my books are open.

Booking Information

  • Not right now! You’ll need to subscribe to my newsletter to receive notifications when they do. I only open my books every other month or so, and I don’t send many emails :)

  • I only tattoo Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and Friday, and I do not work on the weekends!!!

  • When my books open, you’ll get an email with a link to the available flash and another link to my calendar. You will select the type of appointment (flash, custom, touch-up, etc) and the date and time that works for you.

A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required to complete your booking.

If choosing flash, you will be asked to immediately pay a deposit to book. If you are choosing custom, you will receive an email with a link to pay your deposit only if the idea has been approved. I will be reviewing appointment requests as they come in and if for any reason I do not feel that our appointment is not going to work (budget, design, custom submission, repeated flash choice submissions, etc) I will cancel and refund your deposit and the appointment time will become available again.

My booking process is unfortunately somewhat “first come first serve,” which I anticipate is the most frustrating part of this process. For example, you may find that after filling out the form, the time you selected is no longer available. Please try to go back and pick a different slot! In addition, if you do not see times available around 12pm, I suggest circling back around a couple hours later to see if anything has opened up.

  • At minimum, you need to know the intended size, placement, and your budget. If any of this changes after booking, please contact me directly as we may need to reschedule to allot for more time.

  • Annoyingly, my website only allows me to upload one image per form. If you need to upload additional images, you can reply to your submission email or email me directly lilpeggyhill@gmail.com

  • If we have worked together in the past and you’re having trouble booking, please email me directly and I’ll see what I can make available!

  • Please do not apply for another person, it just makes things confusing for me! I will not accept any appointments applying for someone else besides yourself. Any appointments made on behalf of anyone else will be immediately cancelled.

My booking form is not set up to accept appointments for multiple people at once. If you’d like to book with a friend, I’d suggest trying to select a day later in the booking period, as my calendar will offer the first available dates first.

  • I only send out a handful of emails every year.

My mailing list sign up form does not send a confirmation that you’ve been subscribed.

When my booking newsletter is sent out, please check your inbox/ spam/ junk/ newsletter/ promotions/ ads folders etc. I usually try to send out the newsletter between 9am-10am on the day my books open.

Other things to note: Appointments are booked in my time zone (EST), please make sure your calendar is entering this info correctly!

Pricing Information

For more detailed explanations, please visit my Pricing F.A.Q. page.

  • My minimum is $250. (This rate may increase if I am traveling.) A $100 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit is required to book for all appointments except color tests and touchup only appointments.

  • All deposits and merch orders are processed via Paypal. You do not need a paypal account, just an active debit or credit card! To pay the balance of a tattoo session, I only accept cash or credit/debit cards. Any card transactions will be charged at 15% fee which covers taxes and credit card processing fees.

  • YES! I offer a Pay What You Can payment option for my clients who self-identify as a Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color, as well as sex workers and teachers.

To book this type of session, please be sure to select the “Pay What You Can” option box at booking. We can discuss the details via email when confirming your appointment. You will still need to pay a deposit to book. The final balance will be discounted at a rate of 10-50%. You can select what price works for you at that time.

Unortunately I cannot accommodate any day-of requests for PWYC, they must be booked in advance.

Please only select this type of appointment if you truly feel you have the need for it. I will not ask you to prove your situation.

Other things to consider — When I pay more, I know that I am helping the artist support themselves. When I pay in the middle, I know I am helping the artist cover costs. And when I pay at the bottom, I know I am letting my community hold me and support me. All of these are acceptable ways of participating.

  • Tattoo pricing comes down to overhead costs and hidden labor hours. Tattoo equipment is expensive, especially when you provide high quality ink and needles.

You may only spend a few hours IRL with me but behind the scenes, I spend many hours drawing the pieces I tattoo, corresponding with clients, and creating a comfortable and safe environment for our appointment. I am an artist, but also my own bookkeeper, manager, marketer, photographer, among other things! Being self employed means I pay for my own health insurance, pay extra taxes (to two states as I live in NJ and work in NY), and I don't get any paid sick time or vacation time.

I try to keep my prices fair and in line with other artists, while protecting and taking care of myself in this expensive part of the country.

When you choose me to tattoo you, please take all of this in consideration and know that I am so grateful and appreciative of everyone who is willing to save and invest in their permanent art from me.

Design Information

I offer flash pieces all year round. Custom booking is limited and may not be available at every booking opportunity.

  • Often I use illustrations directly from vintage cookbooks, advertising, products and movies, and then re-purpose them as tattoos. My flash is usually a mix of this, my own ideas and designs, and things I’m inspired by or thinking about currently!

My tattoo style is always inspired by mid-century designs and illustrations, but the subject matter is that of what I’ve loved since I was a little girl— books, story-telling, and family. The designs I make remind me of my childhood, and the stories my family shared of growing up in mid-century America, cocktail parties, and game nights. I hope they satisfy your inner-child and bring you happiness too :)

  • Flash are my own designs that I have made and want to tattoo. There are also custom prompts that encourage customization (i.e. food items, still lives, houses, etc.) Changes to existing flash in regards to color, skin tone, hair, body size etc is welcomed and not considered a custom request.

  • No. You’ll just need to know the general size and placement to book. However if you do pick ahead of time, I can offer you a better idea of the duration and final cost of the session.

  • Custom booking is available in two formats, “Custom Flash” and “General Custom”

Custom Flash is based on parameters that I have set, including but not limited to house and pet portraits, cocktails, and snapshot/postcard designs. These will always be able to book all year.

General Custom inquiries are available for booking when I have the bandwidth and energy to make artwork outside of my current flash styles. These periods are usually in the spring thru fall.

  • Typically, yes. I will repeat it to explore other color options. I always ask on my booking form if you do not want your flash repeated. Although of course by nature, every piece is unique :)

  • Typically, no. But you’re welcome to ask me to make another version for you. I can’t guarantee your project will be accepted if it’s something I don’t want to work on again.

  • Please select the “Cookbook” option at booking. They are available whenever my books are open.

At the start of our session, you will come in and look through one of these vintage books and select a design. I love the tangibility of selecting a piece in person, and holding the 70 year old book in your hands :)

There is a digital copy of the book online if you want to look ahead of time, however not all options are available to be tattooed. The book was written and illustrated in the early 1950s, and not every design is acceptable in 2024. I also don’t want to repeat some pieces.

If you want more time to look at the book before the appointment begins, please email me to set this up.

  • I have hand selected each individual matchbook available. I promise there is nothing terribly weird or off-putting.

Typically the designs are illustration based, however there are some I’ve selected based on the style of text, which we will adapt in a custom text for you!

At the start of the session, you will randomly draw 3-5 matchbooks with me. We will then discuss the options and select the best piece for you. At the end, you get to keep the matchbook!

If you don’t like any of the designs pulled, you may pick a small sized flash piece instead.

  • If anything from your initial application has changed, please let me know via our email correspondence ASAP as we may need to reschedule your appointment to allow for more time.

  • If anything from your initial application has changed, please let me know via our email correspondence ASAP as we may need to reschedule your appointment to allow for more time.

My booking is for one piece per application. If you want two flash pieces, I’d suggest booking a “Large Flash Session” when my books are open— however I cannot guarantee we will have time for both depending on the complexity of each design. Usually it is fine :)

When booking you can also add on color tests, touch-ups and up to two minis.

  • Respectfully, no :) I am have worked hard to develop my skills and style. By taking my design to another tattooer, that limits my opportunity to improve and grow as an artist (and makes me sad!)

  • YES! Color tattoos are for everyone, and I am very confident in my ability to tattoo color on all skin tones.

If you aren’t sure about color or are worried about how color heals in your skin because you have darker skin, I recommend doing a color test prior to your appointment. We will then make two appointments. The first being the color test appointment, where we tattoo a small rainbow of color in a discreet place on your body so we can see how the color settles in your skin over time. Then we make another appointment at least two months later for the color session (or not, if you don't want to proceed with color).

This service is free for those who self-identify as Black or POC. If you are not, the test is $50 and covers my time and expenses. In addition, this service does not come off the final balance of your tattoo.

  • Typically, no.

I will only consider a coverup project if we cave already worked together. This way I can consult with you in person and make sure I’m the right artist for the job, and that the cover up is within my wheelhouse.

I will not tattoo a design done by another tattooer or illustrator without their written consent. If the design does not seem proprietary, I’m open to making a unique design in my style for you when my custom booking is open.

Aftercare Information

Psst… I have a whole page on aftercare here!

  • Nope! Everything is the same. Like blackwork, areas that have more heavily packed ink may take longer to heal than lines only.

  • Please let me know ahead of your session if you are concerned about an allergy with my tattoo products.

I do not use latex gloves and have alternative bandages to “second skin.”

  • Touchups are available once your tattoo is fully healed (usually 6-8 weeks). You can book one by visiting the booking tab.

Touchups are subjective. If you aren’t sure if you need one, please email me a photo and we can discuss it further lilpeggyill@gmail.com

  • Immediately after your tattoo, I always suggest drinking at least 16 oz of water, and getting something to eat! PLEASE do not go out drinking after your tattoo session. Alcohol is a blood thinner and will lead to increased blood, plasma, and ink excretion in your bandage which could cause healing issues if not properly addressed.

Personal Safety Information

  • Please do not come to your appointment if you are feeling at all ill. Email me to discuss your options!

  • Masks are no longer required at our studio. However, please feel free to wear one if you would be more comfortable. I will be wearing a mask when actively tattooing.

  • As of January 2023, I am fully vaccinated for COVID-19, flu, tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough.

Did I miss anything?

I am pretty sure I covered it all! But if you still have lingering questions or need clarification, please feel free to email me at lilpeggyhill@gmail.com. I try my best to respond to all email inquiries within a week of their receipt.
